This series of articles explains a few truths about how to make money from home online and what scams to avoid. I will start with Google AdSense because it is among the best ways to make money online legitimately, even though it takes time.

This is really only for highly popular web sites with huge visitor numbers. If the average click through rate for a link is just one percent and if the minimum earnings per click is as little as one cent for some ad links then you can see that you would need one million clicks from unique visitors just to earn ten thousand dollars or more. That assumes that everything is at the minimum earnings but usually it is a bit higher so you do not need quite as many visitors clicking advertising links. Google pays out more than one billion dollars a year to people earning an income through AdSense and that is publicly mentioned in the media and on Google so it is quite genuine.

How to make money

The trick with AdSense is to look at what has the most advertising competition in AdWords. It is usually dating sites and money making scams. The advertisers pay higher amounts per click so therein lies the best opportunities to exploit AdSense for tens of thousands of dollars of income without overly large visitor numbers on your web site. You can use Google’s own Keyword tool to see what words and phrases attract the highest advertising price per click in AdWords. Then all you have to do is find an available domain with that word or phrase and create content for your web site. This will take time so research and write articles first, get those into Google, and then ad the AdSense advertising.

Example and how long until money is made?

If I wanted to start a blog about dating in America and provide examples of where to go to find love, some news about the dating industry (e.g. speed dating nights), and even review some popular dating web sites and give examples of success stories then I might see if www.datingacrossamerica.com is available to register (it is currently, I see). If it is available I would buy it, set up the hosting account, add WordPress and find a WordPress theme, and start researching and writing articles under categories that use popular keywords people use in Google on the topic of dating. I would use Google Keyword Tool and a few others to find the words and phrases people use in the searches in Google.

I would then submit all the content to Google to add to the index and while I wait several months for the rankings for the site to increase I would build the site even more. Then I would add a minimal amount of AdSense advertising. Given that Google only pays quarterly for AdSense earnings, you would not want to quit your job in any hurry. It is something that will take months to build an audience for your web site and it will be many months before you start earning enough income to replace your job’s income. If you can research and write several articles a week at the minimum, and look at what similarly entitled articles are ranking in Google search, then you have something to work with in building your web site.

It is all about the variations of the words and phrases related to your web site’s topic that Google is interested in, even misspellings of words that can attract a few people here and there. If your articles concentrate on each of these words or phrases then you can build your site to cover many of them. Do not go overboard with the use of the word or phrase in each article. Google likes natural articles that use the word or phrase in the topic title and in a few of the paragraphs, with everything else written to highlight, outline or explain something(s) about that word or phrase. If you repeat the word or phrase too often in an article then your search engine rankings may drop.

If you look at Google’s Keyword tool and type in the word “dating” without the quotation marks I used here, look at what you get just for local American searches as well as global searches. The word attracts more than 20 million global searches every month. Then look at the search words and phrases people use in Google for this topic. The phrase “dating site” has high advertising competition and more than 3 million global monthly searches. Therein lies a potential section of your web site in which you can review dating sites. Combine that with other examples in the list like “Christian dating sites” and you can attract more people to your articles on just this topic alone. Do the same for other words or phrases in the keyword tool and there is your whole web site right there. It is the same for any other topic that interests you and/or has high advertising competition where you will earn more money from AdSense.

To close this particular article in the series, there are many web sites out there that try to sell you an eBook or software program that will help you, they claim, to make a fortune from AdSense. In fact you will find whole articles like mine here on the topic of AdSense but they will try to sell you something you do not need. Most of these can easily be ignored because AdSense is not an easy way to make money (most web sites only make a few dollars a day), it is a long term income source but it requires research and effort. If you succeed in building a popular web site based around high advertising competition in Google AdWords (where the money comes from in AdSense) then you will make money while you sleep, as they say in those eBook and software program scams. You might even make enough to quit your day job within 6 to 12 months. Effort equals reward and Google AdSense is a legitimate way to make money from home online if you put in the effort consistently.

There are a small number of bloggers who claim to make a hundred thousand dollars a year from their web sites. All they have on their web sites where advertising is concerned is a few affiliate marketing ad banners and Google AdSense advertising. If at the minimum only one percent of visitors clicked those ads and one cent was earned per click then those web sites would need millions of visitors just to earn one hundred thousand dollars. So you can see then that you must pursue topics for your web site that have high competition in AdWords so you do not need anywhere near as many visitors to make money from AdSense ads on your web site. That way you are chasing five cents a click or more from less than one million visitors to your web site. It can be done with only a few hundred thousand visitors at tens of cents a click from that one percent minimum click through rate.

Tip

Look at Google’s Keyword Tool and see what people search for by trying all the “wrong” topics and you will find a goldmine of opportunity. Type in “lotto”, “cigarettes”, “alcohol”, and all the similar topics for what people use every day and then look at the search volume and competition for AdWords advertising. This is how you will make money online from AdSense if you build a web site around one or more of any of these topics that might interest you in some way. And that really is the key: finding topics that interest you rather than just ones you know you can make money from (like porn). If you are interested in search engine optimization techniques to get better search engine rankings then I would advise reading up on that as well because it will help considerably.
