About
For the conscious consumer
What is a conscious consumer?
To my way of thinking, being a conscious consumer can involve anything from looking at how much sodium and carbohydrate is in breakfast cereals and then buying appropriately through to public events to avoid that involve cruelty to animals for example.
If the public can be “educated” through a regular message to avoid bad consumer products and services then these products will slip away and be replaced by something different (hopefully better).
This is not the general definition of the topic but it is my definition and encompasses ethical consumerism and conscious consumerism (two slightly different topics). It is all about what to avoid consuming, not so much about what to buy. This web site will show you examples of my brand of conscious consumerism.
Why should you care?
The answer is to do with your safety and the safety of other humans and animal species and the environment. It is also to do with your rights to be fully informed and not mislead.

Safety
You are entitled to consume goods and services that will not kill you straight away or within a few years. That means you should be able to buy food that is healthy and disease free. It also means you should expect that cellular mobile phone companies, for example, are doing everything they can within the limits of current knowledge to reduce the long term affect of their product where the potential for cancer is concerned. These are just a few examples and there is more involved in those examples than just that simplistic view of what you should expect.

Right to be informed
Halal meat is a growing industry more and more in western countries now. Consumers want to know if their food is genuinely Halal and they have the right to know so they can make their food buying choices accordingly. It is the same with many other products and services; consumers have a right to know everything they can about what they are paying for.
John’s Site
This site is run from Australia and will offer examples of Australian products and services. However, other countries will be covered too. I hope you can participate here via comment posts and in the forum once it becomes available and together we can expose products and services in general to avoid and inform each other about making better buying choices.
As for me, well I am not some sort of lunatic know-it-all, like some will no doubt claim after they read some of my posts here. I am just your average consumer who holds certain beliefs and annoyances with the way companies mistreat consumers. Some of what I post here will contain a few ignorant comments but overall most posts will be researched before I just blurt it all out.
You are of course entitled to openly disagree with anything I say on this site but I would encourage you to post links to online proof that what you are saying is fact if I appear to be wrong about some topics or comments made within article posts.
Regards,
John
